uwOur very existence is completely dependent on the health of the ocean.

We are causing irrevocable damage to the delicate balance of the ocean and changing the nature of life on earth. 90% of all large predatory fish have been taken from the sea and virtually all the world’s fisheries are depleted. Since the advent of longline fishing, blue fin tuna have declined to a mere 3% of their original population.

The ocean is the key regulator of global climate and supplies the planet with all the necessities of life; the tiny single celled plants floating on the surface of the ocean produce more oxygen than all the forests of the world combined.

Located on Maui, Hawaii, we specialize in underwater video production and licensing underwater stock footage.

Five easy ways in which you can help replenish the ocean...

1) Simply reduce, or better yet, stop including seafood in your diet, (fish are full of mercury anyway and flaxseed oil is much healthier). If you can't stop eating seafood "cold turkey", learn which are best to choose- when in Hawaii you can pick up a seafood wallet card from Pacific Whale Foundation.

2) Support organic farmers by choosing organic products. The run-off from agricultural land rich in pesticides and fertilizers is a major cause of the destruction of marine ecosystems worldwide.
3) Do not buy (or sell) salt water aquarium fish. Nearly 100% of these fish are imported from developing countries where such devastating methods as cyanide are used to stun them for collection. The cyanide ends up killing over 50% of the fish (along with coral and anything else in the area) so one can only imagine how many times it takes the fishermen to collect a profitable batch! In other words, for every one fish in an aquarium, hundreds die. Cyanide fishing destroys huge areas of reef as well, which can take hundreds of years to replenish, if ever.

4) Do not buy or sell decorative shells, coral or other marine products. The majority of these are also imported from developing countries (mainly the Philippines) and many come in illegally. The industry is often run by local mafia-type organizations who literally enslave the poor and uneducated. Many of these beautiful shellfish are deep water species whose populations are virtually impossible to monitor, and it is believed that a severe depletion is already occurring.

5) Can't say it enough...reduce, reuse and recycle whenever possible. Much of our trash ends up in the ocean one way or another, even if destined for the landfill. The biggest culprit being plastic, which, along with other debris, float for years in the major ocean current lines that stretch for hundreds of miles. These are areas where baby sea turtles spend the first years of their lives (and many suffocate or starve to death from complications after ingesting plastic). Dolphins, whale sharks, sea birds and many other species of marine life also congregate here to feed, and they to, mistakenly consume our trash.
